At Paso Robles Farmers Market, we love celebrating local artisans who bring unique flavors and handcrafted delights to our community. This month, we’re thrilled to welcome two exceptional new vendors: No-Name Spice Co. and Santa Margarita Baking Company.
Meet No Name Spice Co.
JR is the owner, crafter, and chef behind No Name Spice Co. He grew up locally, attained a culinary degree at Le Cordon Bleu in Oregon, and has worked in a variety of culinary settings. In his current venture, No Name Spice Co. brings new flavors of JR’s creation to the Market. Named (or not) simply “BIRD”, “COW’, or “OCEAN”, the names suggest what to use JR’s blends on, but don’t feel limited to follow that instruction. I might just go hog wild and marinate a block of tofu with “PIG.” But seriously, Herbs’n’Butter would be an amazing addition to a baked potato or some popcorn. The “Hot Honey” could go sweet or savory, I’m thinking this would be just as at home on some sliced fruit as it would be on an ear of corn. Come down to the Market on Saturday and check out JR’s brainchild!
Santa Margarita Baking Company
Do I smell toffee? Santa Margarita Baking Company delivers just that. Specializing in traditional sweets and treats, SMBC is bringing nostalgia and taste to the Market! This week's treats include Old English Almond Toffee and, one of my all time favorites, marshmallow cereal bars. Relive your childhood and be sure to visit their stall for a sweet treat to enjoy while browsing the market! Don’t forget to stock up for home, we have a holiday next week! Their bags of toffee make great gifts for Father’s Day, which will be here before you know it.
Stone Fruit Delight:
Rocking Chair Farms’ stone fruit is here for the summer! Their white peaches truly are a stone fruit delight. Their lower acid content makes them taste sweeter, but with a lower sugar content than their yellow counterparts. Be aware that they are not suitable for water bath or atmospheric canning because of that naturally lower acid level. My suggestion, if you haven’t eaten all of them in the car on the way home, is to try a fruit tart. This simple recipe from Food and Wine’s website is a delicious reason to buy a few more peaches on Saturday. A sweet egg enriched tart dough encases your sliced peaches. Try this with white or yellow peaches. You will need some preserves for this, so pop over to Taste of Tradition or Reaper Foods and pick out a jar. The recipe suggests peach preserves, but I’m always up for an experiment. How about jalapeno and peach?
With summer on its way, juicy stone fruits are at their peak. Be sure to visit Paso Robles Farmers Market to support our amazing vendors, discover fresh local ingredients, and make this season’s flavors shine in your kitchen!
